Drawing inspiration from traditional Japanese handcraft and culture, I took the characteristics of a sumo wrestler and designed it into a table. The wider stance of the table’s legs resembles the well know sumo stance known as Sonkyo (蹲踞) while the irregular table edge at the heads suggests the imminent forward movement of the wrestler.

I’ve used 70mm thick Iroko wood throughout the design which embodies the oversized sumo wrestler’s physique.

The Sumo table is specifically designed for outdoor use but can be customised for indoor use without the grooves down the length of the table. Get in touch with us for any special requirements.
