Louw Roets's design is informed by a combination of traditional methods and modern technology with an experimental approach to the selection of materials and techniques. his foundation being industrial design, Louw embraces the principles of Bauhaus modernism in furniture design, creating clean, pure lines based on an understanding of classical furniture craftsmanship coupled with careful research into materials, proportions and the requirements of the human body. he often utilises traditional handmade to physically engage with processes to explore new forms and translate it into a contemporary aesthetic.
appreciating a tradition and constantly employing it in the workshop makes it possible to explore & create furniture that reflects tradition while also featuring a unique concept or story that is expressed in a minimalist way.
Louw aims to create furniture that is true to the process and technique that created it, and which reflects an exploration of the boundry between design and functional art.
the studio & workshop is based in Cape Town, South Africa.
